Jannik Sinner is making history in front of a home crowd at the 2026 Italian Open. After taking down Andrey Rublev in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, he’ll face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals on May 15.
With his latest victory, Sinner earned his 32nd consecutive Masters 1000 win, surpassing Novak Djokovic for the longest winning streak in the system’s history. From the 2025 Paris Masters to Indian Wells, Miami Open, Monte-Carlo Masters, Madrid Open, and now Rome — he’s gone undefeated. In 30 of those 32 matches, he won in straight sets.
Sinner is now the only player since Rafael Nadal to reach the semifinals at all of the first five Masters tournaments in a single season.

“It’s a special tournament for me,” Sinner said. “I play just for my own story. And obviously, at the same time, it means a lot to me.
The 24-year-old did appear to show signs of fatigue in the quarterfinals, but he brushed aside any concern. “I’m going to be all right,” Sinner said. “It’s normal that one day in the tournament you are slightly tired. I played a lot also. It has been very long days for me.”
While the Italian superstar is always a crowd favorite, he’s on another level in Rome. Sinner’s family is at Stadio Centrale, and ahead of the semifinals, his girlfriend, Laila Hasanovic, made her way to town.

While Hasanovic, a Danish model, cheered Sinner on at the Monte-Carlo Masters last month, she missed his title win at the Madrid Open, as she was on a shoot in Sweden.
The former pageant queen, however, arrived in Rome and attended an event by Antonio Marras on May 14. She spent the previous week in Copenhagen for a Mercedes-Benz event held at the Royal Danish Opera House. Fans were excited that Hasanvoic made it to Italy.
One fan commented on Instagram, “Shee is in rome ahaahHh😍. Another comment read, “Love how she is doing her own thing and isn’t acting like some trophy wife😍.”

While fans were quick to link Sinner to Hasanovic last year after she attended numerous of his matches, the four-time Grand Slam champion initially shut down relationship rumors.
“There’s a lot of attention,” said Sinner during a press conference during the Italian Open last May. “Also, off the court, I was surprised to see some pictures, which, nothing serious. I’m not in a relationship!”
Sinner made it to the Italian Open final last year, but lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
In September, a fan video appeared to show Sinner’s phone, featuring a photo of Hasanovic as his screensaver at the U.S. Open. Ahead of the tournament, he told Corriere della Sera that he was in love, “but we don’t talk about our private life.”
