UFC middleweight contender Gregory Rodrigues shared his reaction to defeating Anthony Hernandez in the main event of UFC Sacramento.
Entering the fight as the betting underdog, Rodrigues went 25 hard minutes with the cardio machine Hernandez, ultimately outlasting his opponent and winning the judges’ decision by dealing out far more damage during the fight, as he collected the biggest win of his UFC career to date.

Taking to his social media after the fight, Rodrigues shared a message praising Hernandez for putting on an amazing fight in the UFC Sacramento main event.
“2 warriors who step into the Octagon to fight, to provide for their families, and to build a better life for the people they love. At the end of the day, We are not enemies. We are two men doing our job, carrying the same responsibility and fighting for the same reason: our families. @ilovebamf I have a lot of respect for you. And I can say this for sure, You are the One of the toughest guys I’ve ever faced. Thank you for the battle, for everything I learned in there, and for an UNFORGETTABLE night in Sacramento. Nothing but respect,” Rodrigues wrote on his Instagram.
What’s Next for Gregory Rodrigues?
By beating Hernandez, Rodrigues will take his spot in the Meta UFC Rankings, so he will be No. 6 when the next rankings update comes out this week, which should allow him to fight someone ranked highly in the weight class his next time out.
Indeed, that’s exactly what Rodrigues wants, as after he defeated Hernandez, he called out former UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis for his next outing inside the Octagon.
With du Plessis coming off a decision win over Kamaru Usman in his last fight, it certainly makes sense to pair him up against Rodrigues, who is also coming off a great win over Hernandez, with the winner potentially earning a title shot at 185 lbs.
We’ll see what the UFC matchmakers opt to do, but either way, beating Hernandez puts Rodrigues in a great spot in the weight class.
