Brian Navarreto: Everything you need to know

The Marlins reassigned Navarreto to minor-league camp Wednesday. Navarreto received 15 plate appearances over eight games with the Marlins in 2025, but he was never expected to have much of a shot at breaking camp with the big club so long as the team's top two backstops, Agustin Ramirez and Liam Hicks, were both available heading into Opening Day. The 31-year-old will presumably open the campaign at Triple-A Jacksonville.

The Marlins re-signed Navarreto to a minor-league contract Monday. Navarreto elected free agency last month after being outrighted off the Marlins' 40-man roster, but he's found his way back into the organization. The 30-year-old got into eight games with Miami in 2025, going 4-for-14 with one home run at the dish. Navarreto is likely pegged for Triple-A Jacksonville to begin the 2026 campaign.

Navarreto elected free agency Saturday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Navarreto spent the majority of the 2025 season at Triple-A Jacksonville, where he slashed .224/.300/.385 with 27 RBI and 22 runs scored across 180 plate appearances. The 30-year-old backstop will most likely sign another minor-league contract during the offseason.
