Bryan Reynolds: Breaking News

Reynolds is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Nationals. It's the first day off this season for Reynolds, who boasts a .288/.400/.470 batting line with three home runs in his first 18 games this season. Billy Cook will handle left field and bat ninth for the Pirates in Thursday's series finale.

Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a triple, a hit-by-pitch, a run scored and four RBI in Monday's 16-5 win over the Nationals. In his second three-hit performance of the season, Reynolds helped spark Pittsburgh's massive sixth inning, ripping a bases-clearing triple off Jackson Rutledge -- his first of the season -- to jumpstart the club's 10-run frame. The 31-year-old has now hit safely in 11 of his first 16 games, including five multi-hit efforts. Through 72 plate appearances, Reynolds is slashing .290/.375/.484 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 12 runs and one stolen base.

Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 2-0 win over the Cubs. The Pirates were no-hit by Shota Imanaga through six innings, but their bats woke up as soon as the southpaw left the mound. Ryan O'Hearn led off the seventh with a single before Reynolds jumped on a first-pitch curveball from Caleb Thielbar and launched it into the left-field bleachers. It was Reynolds' third homer of the season in 13 games to go along with a .245/.345/.449 slash line, seven RBI and 11 runs.
