The Rangers reassigned Sborz to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. Sborz fell short in his bid for a spot in the Texas bullpen after yielding five earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out eight batters across nine innings during the Cactus League. The right-hander will likely to slot into a high-leverage role in the Round Rock bullpen and could merit consideration for a call-up if he's able to recapture the form that he displayed before undergoing shoulder surgery in November 2024.
Sborz allowed two runs on three hits and one walk over one inning in Thursday's spring game against the Athletics. Sborz allowed runs for the first time in five Cactus League relief appearances, which bodes well for the non-roster invitee's hopes of making the roster. After not pitching in 2025 following a shoulder procedure, Sborz worked hard during the offseason to re-establish the velocity he showed when pitching for the Rangers from 2021-24 (95 to 97 mph). On Thursday, the four-seamer averaged 94.1, the highest it's been this spring.
Sborz (shoulder) tossed a bullpen session Saturday, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. The 32-year-old righty looks to be healthy for the start of spring training after he was limited to just a handful of minor-league rehab appearances in 2025 after undergoing surgery on his throwing shoulder in November 2024. After the Rangers non-tendered him in November, Sborz re-signed with the organization on a minor-league deal in January. He'll need to regain his pre-surgery velocity and command in order to make a serious run at a spot in the Opening Day bullpen.
