Michael Helman: Breaking News

Helman batted ninth and went 0-for-3 in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Angels. The Rangers are coping with three infield injuries, which provides an opportunity for Helman, who filled in for shortstop Corey Seager (back, IL). Ezequiel Duran had been defending shortstop, but he was moved to third base with Josh Jung (shoulder) unavailable. Second baseman Josh Smith (lower body/wrist/illness) is also sidelined, and Justin Foscue has been the primary fill-in there. Helman has experience at all three positions.

Helman entered Saturday's game in the fourth inning after Josh Jung (shoulder) was removed and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a double in a 5-2 loss to the Angels. Texas manager Skip Schumaker adjusted to the injury by moving shortstop Ezequiel Duran to third base and having Helman defend short. Depending on how Jung's shoulder responds, Helman could find himself somewhere in the starting lineup of Sunday's series finale. Since being called up from Triple-A Round Rock, Helman has gone 2-for-8 over four games.

The Rangers recalled Helman from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. Helman has spent all of this season with Round Rock, where he's slashed just .198/.291/.344 in 37 tilts. The 29-year-old had some nice moments with the Rangers last season and could net some starts versus left-handers.
