Allen is set to reclaim a backup role behind Breece Hall in 2026, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. The Jets appear content to bring back the same running back room they had last season, with Hall leading the way while Allen and Isaiah Davis fill backup roles. Allen has had time recover from an MCL injury suffered last October, which carried a return timetable of 8-to-12 weeks at that point. While the 2024 fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin has impressed in practice, Allen will likely continue to cede the majority of backfield opportunities to Hall, who agreed to a three-year, $45.75 million extension with the Jets earlier in the offseason.
Coach Aaron Glenn revealed Friday that Allen (knee) is expected to miss 8-12 weeks, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Per Cimini, it hasn't yet been determined if Allen -- who was placed on IR on Thursday -- will undergo surgery on his knee or recover via rehab, but either way, the timetable estimate will remain in the 8-12 week range. In Allen's absence, Isaiah Davis, as well as newcomer Khalil Herbert and Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) -- when healthy -- are slated to work behind top back Breece Hall.
The Jets officially placed Allen (knee) on IR on Thursday. The expected move freed up a roster spot for the team's addition of fellow running back Khalil Herbert. Allen thus is slated to miss a minimum of four games, though it's possible that his stint on IR could continue beyond that, with Rich Cimini of ESPN.com noting that the RB's injury is still being evaluated, and surgery is considered a possibility. In Allen's absence, Isaiah Davis, Herbert and Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) -- when healthy -- will provide depth behind top back Breece Hall.
