Before Thursday’s game, the Braves released Sandy León from their organization (and he is reportedly heading to the Mexican League).
He had been playing for the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A).
León has appeared in ten games this season.
@CrosbyBaseball of Braves Today wrote: “NEWS: Sandy León, as others have reported, was released from his minor league deal by the Braves It was by his request, so he could join Saraperos de Saltillo of the Mexican League for the rest of their season, which just started and runs through September.”

León’s MLB Career
León started out his career playing for the Nationals.
After three seasons with the franchise, he then had a five-year stint (the longest of his career) with the Red Sox.
In 2018, León helped the Red Sox win the World Series Championship.

Following the Red Sox, León had stops with the Cleveland Guardians, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers (and Braves) over 13 seasons.
He last played in the MLB during the 2025 season.
Over 559 career games, León is batting .207 with 32 home runs, 152 RBI’s and 159 runs.
Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game wrote (on September 14, 2025): “When I talked to Drake Baldwin way back in Spring Training, he mentioned Sandy Leon by name as someone he was able to learn from in Gwinnett last year. Good to have those veteran guys in your system.”

The Braves are currently at the top of the National League East with a 17-8 record in 25 games.
Following the Nationals, they will head home to open up a series with the Philadelphia Phillies (on Friday night at Truist Park).
