On Sunday, the Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies (in Denver) by a score of 11-6.

With the victory, they completed a three-game sweep over the Rockies.

While the Braves are rolling as the best team in the National League, they did receive bad news ahead of the game.

Ronald Acuña Jr. has been placed on the IL.

The Braves wrote (via X): “The #Braves today returned RHP Spencer Strider from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the injured list after optioning RHP Hunter Stratton to Triple-A Gwinnett following last night’s game. Additionally, the club selected OF José Azócar to the major league roster and placed OF Ronald Acuña Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring.”

This past week, Randal Grichuk became a free agent after getting designated for assignment by the New York Yankees.

The 13-year veteran had been off to a slow start to the season batting .194 with six hits, two RBI’s and eight runs in 16 games.

The Yankees wrote (via X) on May 1: “Today, OF Randal Grichuk elected free agency in lieu of accepting an outright assignment.”

Grichuk could be an excellent low-risk option for the Braves to add to their roster for outfield depth (following Acuña Jr.’s injury).

He would not make a major difference, but a veteran with his experience would make sense on a contending roster.

As recently as 2024, Grichuk batted .291 with 74 hits in 106 games.

Grichuk was the 24th pick in the 2009 MLB Draft.

He played the first eight seasons of his career for the St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays.

The 34-year-old then had stints with the Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Royals (and Yankees).

Over 1,376 career games, Grichuk is batting .250 with 1,132 hits, 212 home runs, 631 RBI’s, 619 runs and 27 stolen bases.

His free agency will be worth watching, as there is no question that someone will look to pick him up.

They are also 13-4 in the 17 games they have played on the road away from Truist Park.

On Monday, the Braves will be in Seattle to play the Mariners.
