As reported by SNY Yankees (via X), 25-year-old Jones told the media, “In center field, you’re able to sync yourself up with your pitcher, because you’re able to see everything from out there, but he gave me some advice in the spring in the corners, to focus more on the batter and his rhythm and sync up with that and that’s something I’ve been holding onto this year, and I think it’s helping play the corners a lot better. So I give him a lot of credit; he’s a great defender, great player. He’s able to pass it along to me, and it’s helped a lot.”
Jones is in the midst of his rookie campaign with New York.
At the time of this writing, he is slashing .233/.315/.428 with a .743 OPS and seven homers through 57 games. Along the way, he has posted eight doubles, one triple and 22 RBIs.
Selected by the Yankees 25th overall in the first round of the 2022 MLB draft, it was rather apparent early on that Jones has something worth developing.
He made his official debut in May 2026. Since making his first appearance, Jones has been an exciting young star for New York fans to watch.
As for Grisham, he has far more Major League experience — he is now in his eighth MLB season.
Of those eight years, three have been spent in New York. Before being traded to the Yankees, Grisham had spent four seasons with the San Diego Padres and one year with the Milwaukee Brewers back in 2019.
With such experience and success stamped on his resume, any professional advice from him should be well-received. As the younger center fielder, Jones appears to be soaking up the opportunity.

The Boston Red Sox (71-59), the Blue Jays (64-68) and the Baltimore Orioles (63-68) trail in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
According to FanGraphs’ latest MLB Playoff Odds, as of Aug. 23, New York has a 27.6% chance of winning their division and a 9.4% chance of winning the World Series this year.
With their series against Toronto now over, the Yankees are embarking on a three-game series against the Houston Astros.
For reference, the Astros are leading the American League West standings at 65-66 overall, tying them with the Texas Rangers.
New York is in a solid position with the postseason nearing, but consistency will be key.
