The Philadelphia Phillies are switching some things up ahead of their game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday evening.

On Friday, with Zack Wheeler on the mound, the Phillies dropped the series opener to the Jays by a score of 5-4. Philadelphia had a late rally, but it came up short in the ninth inning.

Part of the ‘switching things up’ by manager Don Mattingly includes a notable Alec Bohm decision.

The Blue Jays are rolling with RHP Max Scherzer on Saturday, which has prompted a series of changes for the Philadelphia Phillies.

One of them is that Alec Bohm is not in the lineup, as he’s getting the day off.

Here is the full Phillies batting order, per @UnderdogMLB:

Phillies 8/8: “K. Schwarber 1B T. Turner SS B. Harper DH L. Arraez 2B B. Stott 3B B. Marsh LF J. Crawford CF B. De La Cruz RF G. Stubbs C A. Nola SP”

Bryson Stott takes over as the fifth-place batter for the Phils, and JT Realmuto is also not in the order, with Garrett Stubbs getting the start behind the plate.

Alec Bohm is set to become an MLB free agent this offseason, and he hasn’t exactly been helping his case out that much with a down year offensively.

He’s batting .225 with 13 home runs, 62 RBI (which is solid), 17 doubles, and 94 hits. Bohm has never been a huge power hitter, but what’s been concerning is the stark drop in batting average. He is a career .271 hitter.

However, Bohm has a negative bWAR at -1.2 with an OPS+ of 72, which is well below league average.

The Phillies are still in NL Wild Card positioning, but every game has become increasingly more important, especially considering there are several NL clubs vying for playoff spots.
