On Friday night, the Toronto Blue Jays will open up their 2026 regular season when they host the Athletics in Canada.
The Blue Jays (like all teams) have been busy finalizing their roster ahead of Opening Day.
Blue Jays Make Roster Decision Before Season

According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, the Blue Jays have made a notable roster decision.
Davidi wrote: “Blue Jays have designated INF Leo Jimenez for assignment, per source.”
Jimenez is coming off a season where he appeared in 18 games for the Blue Jays.

MLB Social Media Reacts To Jimenez News

Here’s what people were saying about the decision:
@DavidBurner1313: “So we are really rolling a bench of 3 OF’s and a C? So our back-up IF’s are….. 1B – our starting 3B 2B – Schneider SS – our starting 2B 3B – our starting RF Really limits flexibility late in games. Something’s gotta give and it sure seems like Lukes for a bullpen arm is likely”
@Daddy_B_Lee: “Bad decision!! Leo can play SS and got no options”
@TimeMoeandjoe: “I’m thinking that might be a mistake”

@Therealstephe19: “That was a bad decision I’m sorry but Davis ain’t cutting it anymore he doesn’t belong in the MLB he has been on downward spiral since last year and he wasn’t good in spring”
@Daniele_Media: “Final roster spot goes to Davis Schneider. As much as I like the value of having Leo Jimenez’s glove at your disposal, I think Schneider was ultimately worthy and deserving of being on the #BlueJays’ Opening Day roster.”
@sackydude_: “Leo Jimenez has always been one of my favourite prospects in the Jays system. Unfortunately for him, he was just never healthy enough to get the runway to show what he could do. I think he could be another Otto Lopez and be a second division starter.”
@JoshuaHowsam: “A sad day. If Leo had ever been able to stay healthy in the minors, I think he’s a regular on this roster by now.”
Blue Jays Heading Into Opener

The Blue Jays are coming off a season where they went 94-68.
They lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series (in seven games).
