Nabs minors deal from Yankees

The Yankees signed Ornelas to a minor-league contract Nov. 14. Ornelas has seen spot duty at the big-league level over the past three seasons, going 11-for-53 at the dish. The 25-year-old has experience at every position other than first base, catcher and pitcher, so he'll be handy to have around as depth at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Atlanta outrighted Ornelas to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. Ornelas passed through waivers unclaimed after being booted off the 40-man roster. The infielder has spent the bulk of the season at the Triple-A level, hitting just .196/.295/.303 in 115 games.

Atlanta designated Ornelas for assignment Friday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Jhancarlos Lara. It's the second time Ornelas has been designated for assignment this season, as the Rangers booted him off their 40-man roster in May before trading him to Atlanta. He's spent most of the 2025 campaign at the Triple-A level, where he's slashed only .196/.295/.303 in 115 contests.
