The Green Bay Packers have brought in a former Cleveland Browns quarterback for a closer look amid rumors about trade interest in backup Malik Willis.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Packers worked out former Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson on Monday along with three other players.

Thompson-Robinson — a 2023 fifth-round pick — made five starts in two seasons with the Browns, but he struggled to be efficient in those games, completing just 53.4% of his passes for 747 yards, one touchdown and seven interceptions and fumbling four times.

During the 2025 offseason, the Browns traded Thompson-Robinson and a fifth-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for 2022 first-round quarterback Kenny Pickett. While Thompson-Robinson vied for a backup role behind Jalen Hurts in training camp, the Eagles opted for Tanner McKee and Sam Howell and waived him in late August.

The Packers currently have three quarterbacks in the mix between starter Jordan Love, Willis and No. 3 quarterback Clayton Tune, who occupied a spot on the practice squad. Thompson-Robinson’s workout comes on the heels of an intriguing report, though.

Malik Willis Drawing Trade Interest From Bengals

According to Packer Report’s Easton Butler, the Cincinnati Bengals called the Packers about the availability of Willis in a trade coming out of Week 2’s win over Jacksonville.

The Bengals lost their starting quarterback, two-time Pro Bowler Joe Burrow, to a long-term toe injury that will require surgery and hold him out a minimum of three months. While the team has expressed confidence in backup quarterback Jake Browning, they have also checked in with multiple free-agent quarterbacks, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Whether the Packers engaged in any meaningful trade discussions about Willis with the Bengals is unclear, but it is unlikely they are motivated to trade their capable backup.

Then again, if the Bengals are anxious about spoiling their 2-0 and are willing to pay a premium for Willis — a 2022 third-round pick — the Packers may decide the return is too good to turn down, similar to when they got an offer for Rasul Douglas in 2023.

Packers Also Worked Out 2 WRs After Losing Starter

In addition to Thompson-Robinson, the Packers also hosted rookie cornerback B.J. Adams and wide receivers Kobe Hudon and Michael Woods on Monday for workouts.

Hudson has the most intriguing potential for the Packers. The 6-foot-1, 199-pound wide receiver caught 130 passes for 2,311 yards and 19 touchdowns in three seasons at UCF and could be a fit for their practice squad if they promote a wideout to the active roster.

The Packers could be looking to reinforce the receiving rotation on their 53-man roster after losing starter Jayden Reed to a broken collarbone in last Thursday’s win over the Washington Commanders. While they have five other healthy wideouts available, they also have three practice-squad options to consider promoting once they place Reed on IR between veteran Mecole Hardman Jr. and rookies Isaiah Neyor and Will Sheppard.

The Packers will play their next game against the Browns at 1 p.m. ET on September 21.
