It’s difficult to say anything positive about the Kansas City Chiefs‘ performances against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. However, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce did give fans one thing to celebrate during the ugly 20-3 loss.
After catching four passes for 44 yards, he officially surpassed Tony Gonzalez for the most receiving yards by a tight end during the regular season and postseason combined (15,432).
However, Kelce is likely more upset about the team’s primetime beatdown than excited about his personal record. While fans hoped to see Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, at the game, she did not attend the matchup at Lumen Field.
Swift was on the opposite side of the country, preparing for her formal induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on Monday night. Kelce did not appear to accompany Swift to the 56th annual gala at Music City Center on October 26, where her vulnerable acceptance speech immediately drew attention.

Swift, who moved to Nashville at age 14 to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter, couldn’t have been more grateful to join the city’s Hall of Fame. She broke down what each word meant to her: “Nashville,” “songwriters,” and then “fame.”
“Fame, that’s sort of a byproduct of my love for music. It’s kind of like songwriter plus Nashville equals fame,” she said, per Rolling Stone. “It’s why a lot of people know the words to my music, which is awesome. It’s also why there’s sort of like these daily random doses of chaos that just pop up in my life every once in a while, every couple of hours.
“That can be kind of weird, but I have tools in place in my mind that help me navigate that and get back to true north when life feels so bizarre. Those tools are my memories and the memories that I visit most frequently when I need to return back to some semblance of remembering what normalcy is and why I do this.”
Fans strongly reacted to his part of her speech on social media. One fan posted, “this heartbreaking.” Another person wrote in part, “Travis gives MRS. Kelce normalcy. I’m so grateful.” A Swiftie posted, “i know this wasn’t meant to be sad but my heart hurts hearing this if i’m being honest 💔.” One man added, “Yeah i’m actually crying.”
Swift shared in another portion of her speech, “One thing that I did learn, songwriters, although they have the superhuman ability to understand and interpret the human condition, and insane levels of empathy, they are just people, too.”

While a small, certain portion of fans find the coverage Swift receives at Chiefs games agitating, Kelce spoke glowingly about what her presence has brought to him and the game during last week’s episode of his “New Heights” podcast.
“I have a lot more people coming up to me expressing… not necessarily their love for the Chiefs, but expressing their stories of them and their daughters having a moment of watching football together,” he said. “And that has been undoubtedly the majority of people that come up to me that talk football just off the street.
“So, I get a lot of thanks for that, which is pretty cool. I didn’t have that one on the card when I started dating Tay, let alone asked her to marry me. But it’s been pretty cool to see the influx of Chiefs fans outside of all the Super Bowl appearances.”
