Now that the Denver Broncos’ season is over, multiple teams are vying to snatch their assistant coaches away, including the Las Vegas Raiders.
One hot candidate is quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Davis Webb, who interviewed with the Buffalo Bills for their head coaching spot (Bills just hired Joe Brady as the HC), has also interviewed twice with the Raiders for their head coaching spot.
Webb is a former quarterback who has spent two seasons as the Broncos’ QB coach before being promoted to offensive pass game coordinator in 2025. With only three teams left with an opening at head coach (Raiders, Cardinals, and Browns), there’s a strong possibility the Raiders could hire Webb as the next head coach, and Broncos head coach Sean Payton definitely had a strong opinion on that.
Sean Payton Sends Message on Raiders Potentially Hiring Davis Webb

GettyHead coach Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos looks on prior to the AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
Payton was straight up when talking to reporters in Denver on the potential of Webb leaving to become the head coach of the Raiders.
“It would be a pain in the ass for him.”
Ouch. Rather than praise Webb for the work he’s helped Payton accomplish in Denver, he decided to send a warning to his QBs/passing game coordinator coach.
Webb spoke to CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson and shared his thoughts on talking with the Raiders:
“Webb enjoyed his first int with the Raiders and said talking with [Tom] Brady was awesome,” Wolfson wrote.
With few options left, the Raiders are playing the waiting game and making sure they hire the right guy. Webb could very likely be what the Raiders are looking for, but if not him, there are other options.
NFL insider Albert Breer commented on the Raiders potentially hiring Webb, saying, “To me, Davis Webb might be the most interesting name.” Webb doesn’t have much coaching experience, let alone any head coaching experience, so will Las Vegas give him time to ease into the HC spot, or will there be immediate pressure on Webb to have success?
That’s the question a lot of fans have.
If Not Davis Webb, Then Who?
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Raiders haven’t decided on their next head coach, which is why Brian Daboll decided to go become the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans rather than wait for Las Vegas.
Now, are the Raiders waiting for Klint Kubiak to finish his Super Bowl run with the Seattle Seahawks? That could be a likely reason.
There have been conflicting reports regarding Kubiak, with NFL insider Tony Pauline reporting that the Seahawks are planning to put on a “full-court press” to keep Kubiak on the staff, while SNY’s Connor Hughes says Kubiak is the frontrunner for the Raiders’ HC job.
Or, could there be a surprise hire like Los Angeles Rams’ pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase? Time will tell.
