The speculation has been running rampant ever since the Cardinals announced they would be releasing the former first overall selection. The Vikings have been in the conversation since the second the news dropped.
Minnesota made it clear they would be pursuing a veteran QB this offseason to promote competition with J.J. McCarthy. It’s been unclear who exactly that would be, but plenty of names are being thrown out.
Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, and Derek Carr are just a few that came up in conversation. However, ever since the news of Murray’s release, all eyes have been on him.
Now, a Friday morning report has painted an even clearer picture of a potential purple future for Kyler Murray.
Vikings Expected To Sign QB Kyler Murray, per NFL Insider

While informing his following of New York Jets fans about their strategies at QB this offseason, he brought up Kyler Murray.
“Kyler Murray was discussed [by NYJ], but he is expected to sign with the Vikings, per sources.”
This isn’t really something an insider will just “say”. If they are confident enough in what they’re saying, there is legitimate steam there. This likely means that the rest of the league is in on the fact that Murray will sign with Minnesota.
It will be interesting if Murray is to sign with Minnesota, seeing as he would be the presumed starter immediately. The Vikings claimed they wanted competition, but would they really hold one between Murray and McCarthy knowing that it’s probably a pre-determined outcome?
Minnesota Likely To Lose WR Jalen Nailor In Free Agency

An excerpt from Alec Lewis of The Athletic painted the picture of Jalen Nailor’s departure. The former Michigan State Spartan has a lot of interest from all around the league as we approach free agency.
“More than 10 teams are eyeing Vikings receiver Jalen Nailor, according to league sources. Nailor recently turned 27 and will be one of the more coveted free-agent wide receivers next week.
Even though he has caught only 69 NFL passes and never reached 450 yards in a season, multiple evaluators think he has the potential to become a priority signing.”
This news could lead to the Vikings being in the wide receiver market for a WR3. Whether it’s free agency or the draft, the team will need a running mate for Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
“The Vikings don’t want to lose Nailor. The coaches — especially receivers coach Keenan McCardell — have watched him progress into one of their best developmental stories.
He can absorb a complex playbook and is a willing run blocker. He possesses vertical speed, and he displays separation ability, too.”
The seventh round 2022 NFL Draft pick could very well be on his way out of Minnesota. Lewis puts his potential market value in the $12-$15 million annual range. This is a bit steep for an already expensive Vikings receiver room.
