The Philadelphia Eagles head into the Wild Card Weekend with a tough matchup to get the NFL playoffs underway, as they’ll go head-to-head against a tough and resilient San Francisco 49ers squad led by star quarterback Brock Purdy, who has defied the odds throughout his entire NFL career so far.
Ahead of this playoff battle between NFC heavyweights, star running back Saquon Barkley opened up about facing a tough 49ers squad and how this San Francisco squad shouldn’t be taken lightly, even though they are without defensive stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner.

On Thursday, Barkley spoke to the media and admitted that the 49ers squad is not to be overlooked due to its injuries.
“They might be beat up, but they’re still a great team over there,” Barkley said of the 49ers. “You don’t get to the playoffs by accident. They had an opportunity to beat No. 1 seed. You don’t get to that by accident.
“They’re banged up, but at the end of the day, we got to focus on the little things. Make sure that we’re all on the same page. Usually when we do that, we’re hard to stop, but that’s the most important thing. You can’t really get caught up in what’s going on over there. You got to be focused on what we have and what’s our play and detail it out.”
Heading into this NFC heavyweight showdown at Lincoln Financial Field, the defending Super Bowl champions are favored (-5.5) to come out on top.
Saquon Barkley on 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey

Barkley knows that the Eagles’ defense will have their hands full with arguably the best running back in the NFL, Christian McCaffrey, who had another incredible regular season coming out of the backfield and catching passes for the 49ers, via 95.7 The Game.
“I think Christian is a great back,” Barkley said. “I’m a fan of the position. I study all of them. I give my hats off to him. He’s one of the best to ever do it, to be completely honest. It’s definitely going to be a challenge for our defense. The defense is definitely up for the task.
“As a fan of the game, you’re definitely going to be watching and see what he’s doing. There’s nothing he can’t do. He can run the ball. He can catch the ball. Literally, he’s an all-purpose back. Probably one of the best all-purpose backs to ever do it. I don’t know if he’s better than Marshall yet. He’s getting there. I’m a big fan of him. We’re good friends. We have a little competitive side. We go against each other. Hopefully, that comes out this week.”
McCaffrey enters this playoff game against the Eagles having accumulated 2,126 yards from scrimmage and 17 total touchdowns, as he has bounced back from the 2024 campaign, during which he played only four regular-season games due to injury.
It’s no secret that the Eagles’ key to success will be containing McCaffrey while hoping Barkley makes a considerable impact on the offensive side of the football.
