The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting ready to watch their city host the NFL draft for the first time in history. So, they are naturally pulling out all the stops to make sure their fans have the best possible celebration as they look to take advantage of having 12 total draft picks as things stand right now.

Part of their efforts to make sure their fans have a great time includes choosing certain Steelers alumni to announce a couple of their draft picks. According to ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter, one of the Steelers’ all-time great wide receivers, John Stallworth, will be announcing a late-round pick for the organization.

John Stallworth Is the Definition of a Pittsburgh Steeler

There is a reason why Stallworth was chosen, alongside former running back Jerome Bettis, former edge-rusher Joey Porter Sr., and current starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr., to announce a draft pick. A three-time Pro-Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Stallworth spent all 14 of his NFL seasons in Pittsburgh. A four-time champion, Stallworth was a key member of the great Steelers teams in the 70s and 80s.

Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002, Stallworth’s 537 career receptions were a franchise record until wide receiver Hines Ward broke it in 2005. A former fourth-round pick out of Alabama A&M in 1974, Stallworth now has the chance to complete the dream of a future Steeler. He is slated to announce the team’s second-round draft pick, which is the 53rd overall pick.

John Stallworth Could Be a Great Omen for the Steelers

Stallworth, one of the team’s greatest wide receivers, announcing a draft pick could be a sign of good things to come for the organization, especially at the wide receiver position.

In Mike McCarthy‘s first offseason as the Steelers’ head coach, the team has started remaking the wide receiver room. Pittsburgh traded for two-time 1,000-yard receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in a corresponding move to letting veteran wide receivers Calvin Austin III, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Adam Thielen walk in free agency or retire. Now, with 12 draft picks at their disposal, the Steelers have a chance to add to the receiver room. Notable prospects such as Makai Lemon and Denzel Boston could be in play for the team in the first round at pick No. 21.

Not only is the wide receiver room being remade, but the Steelers may have the chance to be positively impacted by the relationship between McCarthy and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers should Rodgers decide to run it back for one more season. The four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion helped guide the Steelers to their first division title in five years last season. Could McCarthy, who helped turn Rodgers into an all-time great quarterback during their time together in Green Bay, get the most out of his former quarterback one more time?
