The San Francisco 49ers played better than expected during the 2025 NFL season, despite being ripped apart by injuries from start to finish. The team was as resilient as any in the league in dealing with key players who got banged up, from Nick Bosa and Fred Warner throughout the regular season to George Kittle during the NFL playoffs.

Another notable player for the 49ers who wasn’t available during the 2025 campaign was veteran wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who didn’t play a single snap. He was recovering from a torn ACL and MCL from Week 7 of last season and didn’t make it back.

With Aiyuk failing to play in a game during the 2025 NFL season, the writing has been on the wall for quite some time in terms of what the future holds for the one-time All-Pro wideout.

49ers general manager John Lynch officially put an end to the speculation about Aiyuk while talking to reporters on Wednesday, via Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

“I think it’s safe to say he’s played his last snap with the 49ers,” Lynch said of Aiyuk.

With Aiyuk not playing a game in 15 months and being on the verge of an ugly exit with the 49ers, it remains to be seen whether another team will take a chance on signing the 27-year-old, as he may bring more problems than solutions to a squad looking to add to his receiving corps.

The Arizona State product played a total of 69 regular-season games over the course of six seasons with the 49ers, finishing with 294 catches for 4,305 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns.

Aiyuk also played in nine playoff games, catching 24 passes for 393 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Jauan Jennings Noncommittal on Future With 49ers

After the season-ending loss to the Seattle Seahawks during the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, rising star wide receiver Jauan Jennings was asked about his future with the 49ers and whether he’d be back with the storied franchise next season, via 95.7 The Game.

“I’d have to talk to my guy Drew to see what that is all about,” Jennings said of his future with the 49ers.

With Aiyuk on his way out and Kittle potentially missing all of the 2026 NFL season after his Achilles injury, which takes a long time to recover from, the 49ers’ commitment to Jennings with a new deal will possibly be a high priority for Lynch and the team’s front office during the offseason.

Obviously, both sides need to see eye-to-eye on a new deal, with Jennings wanting to return to San Francisco, but if that happens, he’ll be a valuable asset to the team moving forward and a key weapon for star quarterback Brock Purdy in the passing game.

Jennings had another solid season with the 49ers, as he caught 55 passes for 643 receiving yards and a career-high nine touchdowns. He also hauled in 10 receptions for 111 yards and one touchdown during the postseason.
