Square Enix, the developer behind the popular Final Fantasy series, released A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV for free to Xbox One and PS4 owners today. It was previously only available for those who pre-ordered Final Fantasy XV from GameStop.
The storyline takes place 30 years before the events of Final Fantasy XV and features retro-style graphics reminiscent of old-school titles found in arcades or early video games consoles.
A King’s Tale is supposed to help fill in the gaps and expand on the story told in Final Fantasy XV.
The story begins with King Regis telling his son Noctis, the protagonist of FFXV, a bedtime story. The player then assumes the role of King Regis beating on baddies in this side-scrolling brawler. The game will take the player through three different locations in the world of FFXV.
Features found on the game’s website include a deep combat system, magic, companions and summons. The warp strike found in FFXV also appears in A King’s Tale.
