Braxton Ashcraft: Breaking News

Ashcraft (5-3) took the loss Saturday against Atlanta, allowing six runs on nine hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out five. Ashcraft fired 61 of his 86 pitches for strikes Saturday, but he might've been too aggressive in pounding the zone. The 26-year-old right-hander was knocked around for a season-worst nine hits and tied a season high in runs allowed, though he was still able to pitch at least five innings for the 12th time in 13 starts this year. Ashcraft will bring a strong 3.28 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 86:17 K:BB over 79.2 frames into his next scheduled outing at home against the Marlins.

Ashcraft (5-2) earned the win Sunday over Minnesota, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out 11. Ashcraft was dominant Sunday, blanking the Twins through his first five innings, ultimately allowing two runs on a Brooks Lee homer in the sixth, while setting a season high with 11 strikeouts without issuing a walk. Ashcraft has won three straight while turning in quality starts in five of his last six outings -- he's posted a 1.99 ERA with a stellar 42:5 K:BB across 40.2 innings in that span. Overall, Ashcraft's ERA is down to 2.77 on the year with a 1.03 WHIP and 81 strikeouts across 12 starts (74.2 innings). Ashcraft currently lines up for a tough road matchup with Atlanta his next time out.

Ashcraft (4-2) earned the win Tuesday against the Cubs, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts across 6.1 innings. The Pittsburgh offense gave Ashcraft plenty of run support, hammering Cubs starter Jordan Wicks for eight runs over 4.1 frames, and Ashcraft held up his end of things to pick up his fourth victory. The right-hander has gone at least six innings in all five starts this month and generated 14 swinging strikes on 95 pitches Tuesday. Ashcraft has plus stuff with an upper 90s fastball and one of the better cutters in the sport. He's in the 89th percentile in chase rate and lowered his ERA to 2.75 with a 70:17 K:BB across 68.2 innings this season.
