Hunter Bigge: Breaking News

The Rays optioned Bigge to Triple-A Durham on Saturday. The 27-year-old will end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room in the bullpen for Cole Sulser (back), who returned from the injured list Saturday. Bigge owns a 6.98 ERA and 1.45 WHIP through 19.1 innings with the Rays this season and gave up three earned runs without recording an out during his last appearance Friday.

Bigge (1-0) was credited with the win Thursday against the Red Sox, striking out one in two clean innings of relief. Bigge is bouncing back nicely from a scary injury in 2025, which occurred when he was struck in the face by a foul ball and carted off the field. Nine of his 11 appearances have been scoreless outings to begin 2026, with the 27-year-old right-hander logging a 2.77 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 11:8 K:BB with four holds across 13 innings.

The Rays recalled Bigge from Triple-A Durham on Friday. He's grabbing the roster spot vacated by the injured Garrett Cleavinger (calf). Bigge narrowly missed out on an Opening Day roster spot despite a strong spring training, but he didn't have to wait long for his first promotion. The righty could work his way into high-leverage situations as part of an unsettled Rays bullpen.
