James McCann: Breaking News

McCann (quad) has started taking machine batting practice and doing catching drills, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. McCann is rehabbing a quad strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list May 19. At that time, the club estimated a 4-to-6 week timeline for his return.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that McCann (quad) will likely be sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. McCann landed on the injured list Tuesday with a quad strain, and it doesn't seem like the Diamondbacks are going to get their backup catcher back anytime soon. Aramis Garcia was recalled from Triple-A to replenish Arizona's backstop depth behind Gabriel Moreno. Adrian Del Castillo could make an occasional appearance behind the plate as well.

The Diamondbacks placed McCann (quad) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. McCann suffered a quad strain while legging out a single in Monday's contest, and his injury will officially cause him to remain on the sidelines for another 10 days. Aramis Garcia was selected from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move to provide depth behind the plate, though Gabriel Moreno should continue to receive the majority of starts.
