Jorge Mateo: Breaking News

Mateo went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 13-1 victory over the Guardians. Mateo drew the start at shortstop and made the most of the opportunity, reaching base in all four plate appearances with four singles. The veteran utility man has just 16 plate appearances on the year but has been productive when called upon, slashing .467/.500/.733 with two extra-base hits, seven runs, three RBI and a stolen base.

Mateo went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, three runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Diamondbacks. Getting the start at shortstop while Mauricio Dubon covered third base for a resting Austin Riley, Mateo made a big impact from the ninth spot in the order. The veteran utility player has been used sparingly so far by Atlanta, but he's making a case for a larger role, going 3-for-7 in four games with a double, a homer, a steal, two RBI and five runs.

Mateo slugged a two-run home run in his only at-bat during Thursday's 17-2 rout of the Diamondbacks. The utility infielder pinch hit for DH Dominic Smith in the ninth inning and took position player James McCann deep. Mateo has been used sparingly early in the year, appearing in just three of Atlanta's first seven games and getting only four plate appearances, and it'll likely take an injury or two to put him in a fantasy-friendly role.
