Jose Trevino: Breaking News

Trevino (hamstring) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Trevino also caught six innings behind the plate in his first bit of game action since he strained his left hamstring nearly three weeks ago. The veteran backstop shouldn't require too many more rehab at-bats before rejoining the Reds' active roster.

Trevino (hamstring) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Friday, MLB.com reports. The goal of Friday's imaging is to determine how much activity Trevino should be allowed to do by the club's medical staff. The catcher exited a game May 16 and was added to the injured list shortly after with a three-to-four week timeline.

Trevino is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. It's the least severe diagnosis Trevino could have hoped for, but he will still require longer than a minimum absence. P.J. Higgins will back up Tyler Stephenson at catcher for the Reds while Trevino is shelved.
