Randall Strowd: Everything you need to know

The Diamondbacks optioned Strowd to Triple-A Reno on Friday, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports. Strowd showed a lot of promise during his first season in the majors last year, posting a 1.71 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 26.1 frames with the Orioles. He joined the Diamondbacks via trade in February and entered spring camp with a strong chance to make the big club's Opening Day roster, but he will instead head back to Triple-A after allowing 10 earned runs in just 7.2 Cactus League innings. Arizona is running a bit thin on reliable relievers, as the team is set to begin the regular season without A.J. Puk (elbow) and Justin Martinez (elbow), so Strowd could be invited back into the big-league bullpen if he returns to form in the minors.

The Orioles traded Strowd, Wellington Aracena and Jose Mejia to the Diamondbacks on Thursday in exchange for Blaze Alexander, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Strowd made a strong impression during his first taste of MLB action in 2025, turning in a 1.71 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 26.1 innings with the Orioles. Now with the Diamondbacks, the 28-year-old righty has a good chance to open the regular season in an Arizona bullpen that will likely be without A.J. Puk (elbow) and Justin Martinez (elbow) for most of the year.

Strowd threw one-third of an inning in relief Sunday against the Yankees. After the Orioles began a fire sale ahead of the July trade deadline, Strowd joined the major-league bullpen and gave Baltimore some quality work to close out the year. Through 26.1 innings, the right-hander posted a 1.71 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB with five holds. It remains to be seen if the club will bring Strowd back for 2026, but he certainly made a good impression down the stretch.
