Ginkel pitched one inning allowing a solo home run in a 12-7 win over San Diego on Sunday. Ginkel entered the game in the sixth inning and gave up a home run to Luis Campusano which gave the Padres a 7-1 lead at the time. The right-hander was able to limit the damage at just one before Arizona scored 11 unanswered runs. The 32-year-old had previously gone seven of his last eight appearances not allowing an earned run. This was Ginkel's first home run allowed through 12 outings to date.

Kevin Ginkel: Breaking News
Takes loss Friday
Ginkel (0-1) allowed one run on two hits over one inning, picking up the loss in Friday's game against the Dodgers. Ginkel was handed a tough assignment in his first appearance of the season, entering a tie game in the eighth inning with a switch hitter and two lefties due up. The Diamondbacks have an all-righty bullpen, and manager Torey Lovullo tabbed Ginkel is one of the relievers designated to get lefties. He gave up a leadoff double to Alex Freeland and a run-scoring single by Kyle Tucker two batters later. Ginkel will be part of a late-game crew along with Ryan Thompson, who pitched the seventh inning Friday, and Paul Sewald, who has yet to pitch.
Role clarified
Ginkel will be one of two right-handed relievers that will be counted on to get lefty hitters out, Michael Reynolds of MLB.com reports. Juan Morillo is the other. As it stands a few days before Opening Day, the Diamondbacks bullpen is made up of all right-handers. As such, Ginkel and Morillo are charged with getting tough lefties out. Ginkel's career splits are neutral (.312 OBP vs. RHH, .311 vs. LHH), but he fared better against lefties than righties in 2025, when he had a 90 OPS+ against them compared to 137 OPS+ when facing righties. Being designated to such a role, in which he could be needed for a high-leverage situation in the seventh or eighth innings, could impact his save opportunities. Arizona doesn't have a set closer, and Ginkel is expected to be part of a committee that also includes Paul Sewald and Ryan Thompson.
