Shane McClanahan: Breaking News

Earns sixth win

McClanahan (6-2) earned the win against the Angels on Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with three strikeouts over five innings. McClanahan mostly cruised through five frames, throwing 51 of 70 pitches for strikes and generating eight whiffs. While workload restrictions will continue to limit his ceiling, the southpaw has now yielded one earned run or fewer in six of 11 outings this season while holding opponents to a .184 batting average. He'll carry a 2.45 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 53:19 K:BB across 55 innings into a road matchup against the Marlins next weekend.

Bounces back in no-decision

McClanahan took a no-decision Monday against the Orioles, allowing no runs on three hits and two walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out three. After coughing up four runs in his last start against Baltimore, McClanahan got right back on track in Monday's rematch. The 29-year-old southpaw delivered his fifth scoreless outing in his last six appearances, scattering three singles on the afternoon, but the three strikeouts were a season low. McClanahan is set for another start later this week at home against the Angels, now holding a strong 2.52 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 50:19 K:BB over 50 innings.

Subpar outing results in win

McClanahan (5-2) earned the win Monday against the Orioles. He allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six across five innings. McClanahan didn't have his best stuff Monday, but with the way opposing starter Trevor Rogers struggled, the former simply had to limit the damage to earn his fifth win of the season. This outing snapped an excellent stretch for McClanahan, who hadn't allowed runs in his previous four starts, a span covering 21.2 innings. The southpaw has a 1.66 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with strong peripherals, such as a 9.1 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9, in four starts in May. He's scheduled to make his next start over the weekend against the Yankees on the road.
