Yuki Matsui: Breaking News

The Padres reinstated Matsui (groin) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. The Japanese left-hander has been on the shelf all season after sustaining a groin strain early in spring training, but he's now fully cleared after a month-long rehab assignment, during which he posted a 4.97 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB across 12.2 innings. Matsui should step into a middle-relief role for the Padres after posting a 3.98 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 61:33 K:BB across 61 regular-season appearances last year.

Matsui (groin) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan San Diegoreports. Matsui is nearing his 2026 debut after suffering a left groin strain in February. He was a solid reliever for the Padres a year ago, collecting a 3.98 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with a 61:33 K:BB and one save across 63.1 regular-season innings.

Matsui (groin) may be nearing activation from the 15-day injured list, per MLB.com. Matsui didn't get to participate in any spring contests, so San Diego has elected to keep him on his rehab assignment for an extended period. The lefty reliever has made nine rehab appearances with Triple-A El Paso, posting a 3.72 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB over 9.2 innings. Matsui's activation from the IL could be coming soon, though he may not be thrust into high-leverage work right away.
