Ricardo Almeida will finally get his wish: the new welterweight will face veteran Matt Hughes at UFC 117 in August. Almeida confirmed the news on Versus’ “The Daily Line” show.
Both fighters have signed bout agreements. UFC 117 takes place Aug. 7 in Oakland, Ca.
Almeida asked for the bout immediately after Hughes defeated Renzo Gracie at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi. In a manner of speaking, Almeida will be seeking revenge for his mentor — Gracie awarded Almeida his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.
Almeida will be seeking his fourth consecutive UFC victory and his second at welterweight. Hughes, meanwhile, will be going for his third consecutive victory after wins over Matt Serra and Gracie.
