The New York Yankees upset many fans by bringing back Aaron Boone as manager for next season. Most fans were already aware, but an official report confirmed today Boone will continue his MLB managing career in New York. Another disappointing early playoff exit for the Yankees has fans questioning if the team has any chance at the World Series in the Boone and Brian Cashman regime.

It turns out the Yankees aren’t fully committing to Boone. WFAN and SNY’s Sal Licata revealed that Boone will enter next season with intense pressure:

“Per SNY’s Sal Licata on Baseball Night in New York, Aaron Boone was not offered a contract extension. Boone is currently slated to manage the final guaranteed year of his contract in 2027.”

Real confidence in Boone would see the Yankees extending at least one more season on his contract. However, the fan pressure and critical comments from Aaron Judge put the franchise in a tough position. Boone will enter next season knowing he has just one year left on his deal. Most managers prefer to have security since this can be described as a “lame duck” situation. Boone will have fans and media calling for his job if things start off slowly.

Would The Yankees Fire Aaron Boone During Season

The Yankees tend to be professional and not make drastic mid-season changes anymore in the post George Steinbrenner era. However, the status of Boone is harder to guarantee he’ll get the full season. A slow start will see fans likely chanting “fire Boone” and demanding change.

Even success doesn’t give Boone a chance to breathe since the Yankees had a great regular season this year and in recent years. The problem is that the Yankees have fallen short to better teams come playoff time, as seen with the Tampa Bay Rays sweeping them in the recent ALDS.

Recent years showed the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers decisively beating the Yankees after NY had impressive regular seasons. Boone will likely lose his job if the team doesn’t make the postseason and truly contend for a World Series. The regular season firing will come only if the team falls behind in the AL East race.

Aaron Boone Needs World Series For Long-Term Security

The Yankees could opt to extend Boone if the team has a good regular season and fails to contend in the playoffs. However, that seems unlikely due to the fan pressure and the recent regular season success amounting to nothing.

Boone has been criticized for not getting the best out of talents like Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe. Next season’s team must see Cashman adding a couple of new hitters after a strange season of platoon lineups failed New York.

Questions about Giancarlo Stanton’s future and what position Ben Rice plays already adds stress. Boone will have an extremely difficult job next season with all the stress on him from opening day. The Yankees must have a true chance at ending their historic World Series drought next season for Boone to get a longer extension.
