Seven-time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt is absent from the team’s starting lineup for the fifth consecutive game. He has appeared off the bench in three of the four games he has been away from the lineup. Goldschmidt has gone 1-for-4 as a pinch hitter.
The Yankees acquired first baseman Luis García Jr., who has 24 home runs this season.
Unfortunately for the former MVP, Goldschmidt has struggled after a hot start to the season. In his last 30 games, Goldschmidt is batting .140 with a .416 OPS, 33 strikeouts and only 14 hits.
Overall, Goldschmidt’s numbers are still above-average on the season due to his impressive start. The five-time Silver Slugger is batting .247 with 73 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, 16 home runs, 37 runs and 44 RBIs.
Goldschmidt is set to be a free agent in 2027 after signing a one-year, $4 million contract with the Yankees prior to the season.

The New York Yankees fell to 64-51 after dropping the series against the St. Louis Cardinals. New York has gone 5-5 over their last 10 games and are now 4.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.
Left-hander Max Fried will aim to get the Yankees back on track as he makes his 14th start of the season. Fried enters Friday’s game with a 4-3 record and a 3.12 ERA in 75 innings this season.
Braves Right Now
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Braves are in the middle of a hot streak. They have won eight consecutive games and now hold an 8.5 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East.
Trade deadline acquisition Tyler Mahle is expected to make his first start for the Braves on Friday. Prior to joining the Braves, Mahle made 18 starts with the Giants this season, posting a 3-9 record with a 5.13 ERA.
