Luis García: Breaking News

Garcia went 4-for-5 with a double, stolen base, three RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 11-4 win over Atlanta. Garcia had a total of four hits in previous 13 games combined, so Tuesday's performance was a big boon to his batting average. After recording multiple hits in three of the Nationals' first eight games, Garcia had been just 5-for-43 (.116) at the plate over the last 14 games prior to Tuesday's season-high four hits. Garcia is now slashing .247/.284/.364 with one home run, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, two stolen bases and a 4:12 BB:K across 81 trips to the plate.

Garcia went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 8-6 loss to the Dodgers. Garcia put the Nationals ahead early, launching a two-out homer off Roki Sasaki in the third inning, giving Washington a 2-1 lead. The home run was Garcia's first of the season, though he's been swinging the bat well, going 11-for-34 with five extra-base hits and six RBI in his first nine games this season.

Garcia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. The Nationals will hold out the left-handed-hitting Garcia for the third time in three matchups versus a southpaw starter through the club's first six games of the season. Curtis Mead will pick up his first start with Washington, filling in for Garcia at first base while the Nationals face off against Cristopher Sanchez.
