The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros 8-3 on Sunday afternoon to take two of three games in the series and improve to 74-56 overall.
They’ll have Monday off before the Astros come to the Bronx for a three-game series beginning Tuesday.
Ahead of the series, both the Astros and Yankees have announced their probable starting pitchers via MLB.com.
Yankees Announce Probable Starters
The only game that remains undecided for New York is Wednesday, as the Yankees will likely need a spot starter with Ryan Weathers heading to the IL and Max Fried still sidelined.
Tuesday: RHP Will Warren (8-6, 4.43 ERA, 122 strikeouts) vs. RHP Ethan Pecko (0-0, 4.91 ERA, 4 strikeouts)
Wednesday: TBD vs. RHP Peter Lambert (8-7, 3.68 ERA, 120 strikeouts)
Thursday: RHP Gerrit Cole (7-6, 3.11 ERA, 100 strikeouts) vs. Hayden Wesneski (3-1, 4.23 ERA, 22 strikeouts)
New York’s starting rotation has yet to reach full strength, with all five of its expected starters still unable to pitch together. Despite those injuries, the Yankees have arguably had the best rotation in baseball this season.
They currently lead MLB with a 3.37 team ERA and have a 1.19 WHIP and 1,030 strikeouts. Opponents are also batting just .226 against them across 1,025.2 innings.
The ideal rotation New York envisions includes Cam Schlittler, Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Cole and either Weathers or Warren as a fifth or potential sixth option down the stretch.

New York remains in a strong position despite the injuries it has had to overcome.
The Yankees enter the week at 74-56, putting them within striking distance of the Tampa Bay Rays for the best record in the American League. They trail Tampa Bay by 3.0 games.
After their three-game series against the Astros, the Yankees will host the Boston Red Sox for a massive weekend series. Boston sits just 3.0 games behind New York for the second-best record in the AL.
