Peter Lambert: Everything you need to know

Lambert (3-4) earned the win against the Cubs on Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five across five innings. It wasn't exactly smooth sailing for Lambert, who allowed at least two baserunners in three of the first four innings of his start. All three runs he gave up came in the second frame, though it could have been worse given that he loaded the bases before striking out Michael Conforto to end the inning. Lambert ended his outing on a positive note by striking out two of three batters in the fifth, and he received enough run support from his Astros teammates to come away with his third win of the season. Lambert will take a 3.79 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 40.1 innings into his next start, which is slated for next weekend at home against the Brewers.

Lambert (2-4) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings. Lambert was dominant early, keeping Texas hitless through the first four innings before taking damage in the fifth. After allowing his first hit of the game, he immediately surrendered a two-run homer to Jake Burger to open the scoring. Following a clean sixth inning, Houston allowed the right-hander back out for the seventh, but he allowed three straight baserunners to load the bases before exiting, and all three eventually came around to score. The five runs allowed marked a season high for Lambert, though he has still done an admirable job providing length for Houston's injury-riddled rotation, completing six innings in four of his last five starts. He now owns a 3.57 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB across 35.1 innings and is slated to face the Cubs next.

Lambert (2-3) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings against the Mariners. He struck out six. Lambert provided valuable length but didn't receive enough offensive support to avoid taking the loss. The right-hander allowed all three of his runs in the second and third innings before settling in to log his second consecutive seven-inning outing. The early returns on the 29-year-old in Houston's rotation have been quite positive, as he owns a 2.76 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with a 29:12 K:BB across 29.1 innings (five starts). Lambert will look to get back in the win column in his next start, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against Texas.
