Yankees pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga will not take the mound for the team again in 2025.

The New York Yankees have had a disappointing offseason to this point, and they lost another contributing reliever from the 2025 team on Tuesday when it was announced that Jonathan Loaisiga is signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks on a minor-league contract, according to Jorge Castillo.

The deal is expected to include an invitation to Spring Training. For Jonathan Loaisiga he will be departing the Yankees organization, where he’s spent all eight of his MLB career. This deal will slightly get lost in the shuffle, as the Diamondbacks also just pulled off a massive trade for Nolan Arenado.

Jonathan Loaisiga’s Career with the Yankees

Nicknamed “Jonny Lasagna” over his career with the Yankees, he became a fan favorite quickly due to his funky delivery and shark sinker that kept hitters off balance.

2025 limited Loaisiga to just 29.2 innings with New York, and he posted a 4.25 ERA and a more-ugly FIP of 5.83. His time seemed to have run its course with the Yankees after this season, but he turned in a pretty solid career with New York.

Over 249.1 innings and 193 total appearances, he posted a 3.54 ERA with the Yankees and struck out 232 batters.

His 2025 season ended due to a flexor strain in his elbow, and, being that he’s now 31, the Yankees did not want to take a chance at an empty signing. He will now have a chance to make his mark with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. BaseballReference.com projects him to pitch 40 innings in 2026 and post a 4.05 ERA.

Loaisiga’s best season in pinstripes certainly came back in 2021, when he pitched 70.2 innings and posted a 2.17 ERA and 69 strikeouts.

Yankees’ Bullpen Losses

This has been a cleaning-house offseason for the New York Yankees, it seems like. They’ve lost Luke Weaver and Devin Williams in free agency to the New York Mets, and now have lost Jonathan Loaisiga.

The Yankees’ internal options include Brent Headrick, Fernando Cruz, Ryan Yarborough, David Bednar, Tim Hill, and Camilo Doval.

New York picked up Kaleb Ort off waivers just the other day, and with this recent news of Loaisiga signing elsewhere, Ort might have a more prominent role, or at least have a chance to make an impact on the big-league roster.
