Joining the exclusive 99 Club in Madden, Ja'Marr Chase had quite the confrontation with Joe Burrow.

No Cincinnati Bengals player has ever received a 99 rating in Madden before. The iconic NFL video game franchise has long been known for the ’99 Club.

It was only a matter of time before either Joe Burrow or Ja’Marr Chase was named to that list. This year, it was revealed that Chase received the honors. Chase reacted accordingly, which sparked an interesting response from his quarterback.

Joe Burrow Left Speechless as Ja’Marr Chase Wears Chain Featuring No. 99

The number 99 is iconic as it represents Chase’s madden rating. While it may not seem like a big deal, it’s quite the honor for a wide receiver. Not many have done so in the franchise’s lengthy run, but even more important is the fact that no Bengals player has ever done so.

A video surfaced from the locker room where Burrow walked up to Chase who was wearing the necklace. Burrow walked in with a t-shirt saying, “Tacocat spelled backwards is tacocat.” It’s a harmless shirt, as harmless as Chase’s newest accessory.

“I just went to Leo, got iced out,” Chase told Burrow. The Bengals quarterback was left confused, “What does that mean?”

Chase responded, “Uhh 99 overall. I beat you, so.” It’s clear Burrow didn’t have much to say as he said, “Nice”, and later added, “Cool man,” before walking away.

Madden ratings always bring a competitive side out of players, with this being the latest example. It’s clear there’s no hard feelings between Burrow and Chase, just a little bit of jealousy, if anything.

Michael Hull of the Bengals included a quote from Chad Johnson. Johnson is widely considered a Bengals legend, and he’s a Madden Ratings Adjuster, “We all know what you can do. You’ve arrived, the ’99 Club’… Welcome to greatness.”

Madden 26 99 Club

The latest installment of the Madden series will release on Thursday, August 14. The 99 Club reveal was step one of five this week as news continues to drop regarding the game. In the coming days, the franchise will reveal the rookies, offense, and defense ahead of the full reveal and superstar x-factors on Friday, August 1.

In total, seven players are in the 99 Club this season. Madden NFL 26 revealed Lane Johnson, Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley, Justin Jefferson, Josh Allen, and Myles Garrett will be in the exclusive club.

Burrow gave Jackson and Allen a run for their money last season, though he failed to win the MVP award as the Bengals didn’t make the postseason. It’s no surprise to see either of those QB’s earn the 99 rating. Another incredible season for Burrow would almost guarantee he joins the club next season, but that remains to be seen.

Chase and Jefferson are the lone receivers in the group. In fact, Garrett is the only defensive player to grace the list. Chase and Jefferson have long competed to see who is the better wide receiver, with Chase edging the Minnesota Vikings star in the latest coaches poll.

Barkley left the New York Giants and immediately helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl Championship. His 99 rating was undeniable as the Madden 26 cover star earned everything that came his way.
