The Cincinnati Bengals are entering 2026 with as much pressure as any team across the NFL landscape.

With the team missing the playoffs in each of the past three seasons, there seems to be more urgency to right the ship this year. After a strong offseason, Cincinnati enters the year with all sorts of hype surrounding them.

The Bengals brought in multiple defensive players to help bolster the unit, including star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. This should allow the team to be more well-rounded, potentially offering them a better chance to find success.

With quarterback Joe Burrow still under center, the Bengals do have a chance to win each time out. Burrow and the offense have been electric in each of the past few seasons, but the lack of a quality defense has let the team down.

Joe Burrow Drops Another Honest Quote About Bengals

Ahead of the season starting, Burrow has been dropping all sorts of quotes and thoughts on the upcoming year. The star quarterback has made it clear that this season is crucial, even admitting that both he and others are playing for their jobs.

“We have guys playing and coaching for their jobs this year. That’s how I’m looking at it — I’m playing for my job this year,” Burrow said.

Burrow wants to win at the highest level, but with the Bengals, he hasn’t been able to make it happen. Cincinnati did reach the Super Bowl in 2021, but the team hasn’t been back since.

This has led to questions around head coach Zac Taylor, with many calling for Taylor to be fired after last season. The Bengals front office decided to hold on to Taylor for another year, making this a make-or-break year for him.

Burrow understands this, but his comments show that the clock is ticking loudly on him being in Cincinnati. There have been rumors that Burrow could ask out of Cincinnati if the team were to underperform once again.

Could Joe Burrow Leave the Bengals?

After a high-intensity practice this week, Burrow started to fuel the rumors with other comments.

“I’m trying to put it out into the world. I’m trying to manifest it. You can keep pushing it down the road, or you can talk about it now,” Burrow said. “I’m tired of saying ‘next year, next year, next year.’ This is it.

We have to step up and make something happen this year. We’re working really hard for it. The urgency is very high in the locker room. You can feel it. It’s palpable. As I said, we have to be more consistent on offense. Our standard is so high, but it’s so high because of what we’ve done and what we can do, and so I’m going to continue to push that, and we’re going to keep getting better and see where we’re at Week 1. But I’m so excited for it.”

The Bengals are under a lot of pressure to figure things out this season, getting back to being a true contender in the AFC. This roster has the needed tools and players to make it possible, but they’ll need to prove their skills on the field once again.
