The Houston Texans may be reversing their trend on offense, first with wide receiver Jaylin Noel, and now versatile running back British Brooks. Brooks, who also plays fullback for the Texans, suffered a broken hand earlier in camp.
“British Brooks is back on the practice field,” Stoots & Locker host Landry Locker posted on X on August 24.
SportsTalk 790’s Adam Wexler followed soon after with a report that corroborated the news.
Brooks, who turns 27 in November, rushed for a career-high 78 yards during the 2025 regular season, appearing in 15 games with two starts. He slimmed down and saw his production and overall play improve, fostering hopes of a larger role in 2026.
His injury was a setback for himself and the Texans.

Brooks, a former undrafted free agent, is one of four Texans backs who battled (or still are) injuries this spring and summer. They remain without Jawhar Jordan and Joshua Pitsenberger, the latter of whom is on injured reserve.
However, the Texans have added Deuce Vaughn amid their injury woes.
Vaughn, who began his career with the Dallas Cowboys and has spent time with the Denver Broncos, participated in his first Texans practice on Monday.
Brooks’ return bolsters a backfield that is led by David Montgomery and will feature second-year former fourth-round draft pick Woody Marks. While the Texans believe in Montgomery’s three-down skill set, they remain expected to split the workload in the backfield.
“The distribution of carries between David Montgomery and Woody Marks might not be 50-50 but it will be close. The Texans have utilized both nearly evenly throughout camp,” the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan M. Alexander wrote on August 24, adding, “both players have produced. Offensive coordinator Nick Caley doesn’t typically go away from what’s working.
Montgomery and Marks have two different styles, which will allow for the Texans to mix and match them.”
Alexander expects they will ride the hot hand, citing head coach DeMeco Ryans’ openness.
Texans Remain Without Veteran Linebacker, Several Others
GettyJake Hansen remains sidelined for the Texans.
Despite the positivity of Brooks’ return, the Texans are still navigating injury issues at other positions.
“#Texans linebacker Jake Hansen (ankle) not practicing, but making progress and has been running for a while again after early camp injury,” KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported on X on August 24. “[Dominique] Robinson (calf) not practicing.”
Hansen is one of several Texans linebackers who have or are battling an injury, while Robinsons absence follows those of Jadeveon Clowney and Logan Hall.
Neither of those appear injury related. Still, the list of DNPs was far more extensive.
Wilson added Brevin Jordan, Collin Wright, Noah Whittington–another RB–Kamari Ramsey, Tank Dell, and Wade Woodaz, who is having surgery on his thumb, which he injured against the Las Vegas Raiders.
