Shaheed (toe/foot) returned to practice this week and said he "didn't lose a step" despite missing a substantial portion of training camp, Darrion Gray of USA Today reports. Shaheed said "I stayed on top of everything that I needed to throughout the rehab process," indicating that he'll be fully up to speed with New Orleans' offense Week 1 versus the Panthers. It remains to be seen whether Shaheed has yet resumed practicing in full, but it seems like the third-year pro is on track to play in the Saints' regular-season opener on Sept. 8. Shaheed looks primed for a crucial role behind No. 1 wideout Chris Olave, but he could be deployed somewhat differently this season under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Wright (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve by the Saints on Tuesday. Wright compiled 11 total tackles (seven solo) during the preseason with New Orleans, but he'll unfortunately have to sit out the entire 2024 season while on IR with an undisclosed injury. If the cornerback and the Saints can come to an agreement on an injury settlement, Wright would be able to sign elsewhere and potentially play this season.
Sewell (knee) was placed on the reserve/PUP list by the Saints on Tuesday. Sewell is still working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 17 of the 2023 season and he'll be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2024 campaign. The linebacker will be first eligible to return in Week 5 against Kansas City on Oct. 7.
Lattimore (hip) returned to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Lattimore suffered a hip flexor in late July, worked with trainers on the sideline Aug. 13 and finally returned Wednesday. The eighth-year pro appears on track to play in New Orleans' Week 1 matchup with the Panthers on Sept. 8.
Shaheed (toe) is at practice Wednesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. While the extent of his participation is unclear, Shaheed's presence in any capacity is a good sign for the Saints with 11 days to go before their season opener against Carolina. He's dealt with a toe/foot injury for the past couple weeks, after missing time with a hamstring injury early in training camp.
Ridgeway was traded from the Commanders to the Saints along with a 2025 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The addition of Ridgeway gives New Orleans some insurance on the interior of the defensive line, as starting defensive tackle Khalen Saunders recovers from a calf injury that could impact his Week 1 availability. Ridgeway appeared in 32 games for Washington over the previous two seasons, notching 55 tackles (30 solo).
The Saints claimed Nwangwu off waivers Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The Vikings waived Nwangwu a day earlier, electing to keep only two running backs on their initial 53-man roster. The Saints have four, at least temporarily, with Nwangwu joining Alvin Kamara, Jamaal Williams and Jordan Mims while Kendre Miller (hamstring) starts the season on injured reserve. The Saints may view Nwagnwu as a kick returner more so than a running back, considering he has three career touchdowns on special teams.
