UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady defended his cornerman, Din Thomas, who has come under fire in the past week for his comments.
After Gillian Robertson failed in her bid to become the new UFC women’s strawweight champion against Mackenzie Dern at UFC 330, Thomas went on air during the UFC on Paramount+ broadcast and announced that he was retiring from cornering, saying that it was partly due to him believing Robertson could not go any further in her career.
The comments did not sit well with the entire MMA community, who collectively showed their displeasure towards Thomas for the comments he made about Robertson live on air, when those are the types of things that should be said behind closed doors.
Thomas later came out and issued a full apology to Robertson, but his long-time pupil has yet to accept his apology.
But while Thomas originally said he was done cornering after Dern vs. Robertson, he later took back those comments and suggested he could corner Brady when he takes on Gabriel Bonfim in November in the main event of UFC Vegas 124.

Speaking to The Schmo, Brady was asked about Thomas potentially cornering him against Bonfim.
While Brady said he didn’t agree with Thomas’s comments about Robertson that he made on air, he still stands by his man and said that he would love it if Thomas decided to corner him against Bonfim at UFC Vegas 124.
“Din’s going to come out and say something, but I stand by Din. What Din said, he shouldn’t have said it on air, but that’s the way Din feels. I think he has some things that he needs to clear up. But Din’s a great guy. I think a lot of people are coming out, and they’re piling on Din right now at a bad moment, and they’re taking this opportunity ot jumpn on him. Like I said, Din’s a great guy. Comes up to Philly and doesn’t ask me for anything. I’m riding with Din still. He’s my dog. If he wants to be in my corner, I would love to have him, and we’ll just go from there,” Brady said.

The decision for Thomas of whether or not to corner Brady will certainly be an interesting one, since he will essentially be walking back his initial retirement from being in his fighters’ corners not long after he made it.
While Thomas was obviously extremely emotional after Robertson lost to Dern, he should have taken some time to think about his future in cornering fighters instead of making the comments that he did in the heat of the moment.
That being said, it’s his life and his career, so if he wants to corner Brady or any of the other fighters that he coaches, then he will decide to do that.
As for Robertson, it seems unlikely that he and Thomas can mend their fences enough for him to corner her again, but stranger things have happened in MMA, so you can never say never on that front despite the comments he made following UFC 330.
