Brenton Doyle: Breaking News

The Rockies announced Friday that Doyle (oblique) has been to take part in some pool exercises since landing on the 10-day injured list May 21, MLB.com reports. Doyle is working his way back from a left oblique contusion, and though the discomfort he had been experiencing seems to have dissipated a bit in recent days, he's not yet been cleared to resume baseball activities. With Doyle's stay on the IL likely to extend through at least the upcoming week, Jake McCarthy should be in store for regular run in center field against both righties and lefties after previously being limited to the strong side of a platoon.

Doyle (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to May 20. Doyle was set to miss a second straight contest Thursday, but he's now headed to the IL while nursing a left oblique contusion that he suffered in Tuesday's 10-0 loss to Texas. The outfielder will be eligible to return to action May 30, and in the meantime, Mickey Moniak could enter the lineup against southpaws, while Jake McCarthy handle's the lion's share of the workload in center field.

The Rockies announced that Doyle is considered day-to-day after suffering a left oblique contusion during Tuesday's 10-0 loss to the Rangers, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. Doyle isn't expected to play in Wednesday's series finale while he continues to be monitored, but the Rockies haven't decided on his availability for their upcoming seven-game road trip. The 28-year-old has posted a career-worst .549 OPS so far this season and appears to have moved into a short-side platoon role in center field in recent weeks.
