Connor Joe: Breaking News

Joe went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Royals. Joe's homer was his first of the season. The 33-year-old has hit safely in his last four contests, going 4-for-11 in that span. He's filling a depth role for the Mariners with the ability to cover first base and both corner outfield spots, though the bulk of his playing time will come against left-handed pitchers. Joe has added three RBI, two runs scored, a double and one stolen base over 17 plate appearances this season.

Joe went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. This was just the third time Joe has played since the Mariners selected his contract April 8. He has primarily functioned as a bench option, but he was in the starting lineup Sunday to give Josh Naylor some rest. Joe has a 1:3 BB:K over nine plate appearances, and the steal was his first of the season. Moving forward, he's unlikely to see steady playing time, assuming he's even able to stay on the big-league roster.

The Mariners selected Joe's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. He'll assume the roster spot vacated by Victor Robles (pectoral), who landed on the 10-day injured list. The right-handed-hitting Joe has a solid .247/.344/.401 career batting line versus left-handed pitching and should see some playing time versus southpaws with the Mariners.
