May (3-3) took the loss Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts across six innings. After getting tagged for 13 runs across 7.1 innings in his first two starts of the season, May has posted four quality starts in his last five tries. The right-hander dealt with plenty of traffic on the bases early Sunday, but he generated three double plays in the first four innings. May has plus stuff, but he's not getting many strikeouts, with just a 25:9 K:BB and 5.15 ERA across 36.2 innings. He's in the third percentile in whiff rate despite averaging 97.0 mph with his fastball. May has pitched better than his results and is lined up to take on the Padres in San Diego during next weekend's four-game set.

Dustin May: Breaking News
Another positive showing
May took a no-decision Monday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out two. Just one of the hits allowed went for extra bases, as May continued to put his awful start to the season in the rear-view mirror. Although the right-hander gave up 13 runs over his first 7.1 frames, he's pitched at least five innings while giving up two runs or fewer in four consecutive starts en route to producing a 1.93 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB during that stretch. May still has a 5.28 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB over 30.2 frames for the season, and a tall task against the Dodgers awaits him in his next scheduled outing.
Sharp in Tuesday's win
May (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over 5.1 innings in a 5-3 victory over the Marlins. He struck out five. The right-hander served up a solo shot to Jakob Marsee to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but May cruised from there, eventually getting lifted after 97 pitches (59 strikes). He saw his quality start streak end at two, but after a shaky beginning to his St. Louis tenure he's delivered a 1.56 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB over 17.1 innings in his last three trips to the mound. May will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Pittsburgh.
