Gavin Sheets: Breaking News

Sheets went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run in a 10-8 win against Colorado on Thursday. On the day he turned 30 years old, Sheets began the game on the bench. However, we was called upon to pinch hit in the eighth inning and stayed in the contest after grounding out. Sheets got another chance to bat in the ninth frame and came through with a huge three-run blast that turned a one-run deficit into a two-run lead, which ultimately decided the outcome of the game. Through 79 plate appearances, Sheets is slashing .227/.266/.467 with three homers, nine doubles, nine runs, nine RBI and one stolen base while making starts at first base, in left field and at DH, primarily against right-handed pitchers.

Sheets is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. After starting in each of the Padres' last six games, Sheets will hit the bench along with fellow left-handed hitter Jake Cronenworth while Colorado sends southpaw Kyle Freeland to the bump. Ty France will draw a start at first base in place of Sheets.

Sheets went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's 5-2 win over the Rockies. Sheets opened the scoring with a solo shot in the fifth inning and then walked it off with a three-run blast in the ninth. Those were his first two homers of the year after he hit a career-best 19 in the 2025 regular season. This was Sheets' second multi-hit effort in a row and his fourth in his last eight games. The 29-year-old is now batting .256 with a .785 OPS, six RBI, six runs scored, five doubles and a stolen base over 13 contests.
