Huascar Brazobán: Breaking News

Brazoban will serve as the Mets' opening pitcher in Monday's game versus the Rockies, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Brazoban will likely handle just one inning before tuning the ball over to lefty David Peterson, who is slated to be the team's primary pitcher in the series opener in Colorado. The right-handed Brazoban has been excellent out of the Mets bullpen this season, posting a 1.15 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB across 15.2 frames.

Brazoban (2-0) earned the win in relief Friday against the Angels after tossing a perfect sixth inning, striking out one. Brazoban only needed 11 pitches to get through the sixth, and after the Mets' bullpen combined for four scoreless frames, the veteran right-hander was awarded his second win of the season. This scoreless outing represents a rebound after Brazoban allowed runs in his previous two outings, but those are the only two appearances in which he's allowed any damage. Through 13 appearances and 14.1 innings, Brazoban owns a 1.26 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a strong 12:3 K:BB.

Brazoban (1-0) recorded the win Sunday against the Giants, tossing 1.1 perfect innings of relief. He didn't strike out a batter. The right-hander replaced Kodai Senga on the mound in the sixth inning with the Mets down 2-1, and was still the pitcher of record when they erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth. Brazoban has looked good to begin the season, posting a 0.00 ERA and 3:0 K:BB over five appearances and 5.1 innings.
