Paez (hip) struck out four across three scoreless innings during Saturday's game against Double-A Reading. Paez received some time to recover after experiencing soreness in his right hip, but he was cleared to toe the rubber Saturday and looked sharp. He owns a 4.22 ERA and 0.75 WHIP with a 10:1 K:BB across 10.2 innings so far this season while pitching for Double-A Portland.
Paez will not pitch for Double-A Portland on Saturday due to right hip soreness, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. It's unclear when Paez sustained the injury, but the Red Sox should have an update on a recovery timeline for the 22-year-old pitching prospect once he undergoes more tests on his right hip. He was roughed up in his last outing in Double-A this past Sunday, when he allowed three runs on four hits while striking out two across three innings.
Paez cleared waivers Saturday and was returned to the Red Sox, Chris Henrique of BostonSportsJournal.com reports. The White Sox selected Paez during the Rule 5 Draft, but he was DFA'd by the club after giving up six earned runs on four hits and three walks in just three innings. The 22-year-old had never pitched an inning above the High-A level before debuting for Chicago, so the Red Sox may send him back down to High-A or Double-A now that he's back in the organization.
