Jhonny Pereda: Everything you need to know

The Mariners recalled Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. Pereda was unable to crack the Mariners' Opening Day roster but has played well in Triple-A, where he is slashing .333/.418/.436 with two home runs and eight RBI across 91 plate appearances. The move gives the Mariners a third catcher on the 26-man roster, which is notable after Cal Raleigh was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Royals due to undisclosed reasons. Will Wilson (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Pereda was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. Pereda was traded from the Twins to Seattle in January, and he was able to participate in spring training with the big-league club. The catcher batted .200 with a run scored and a stolen base over 25 at-bats in 15 contests. He'll now head to Tacoma ahead of the 2026 campaign.

The Twins traded Pereda to the Mariners on Tuesday in exchange for cash. The Twins DFA'd Pereda on Friday after signing Victor Caratini, but the former will reclaim a 40-man roster spot now that he's been dealt to the M's. He won't take playing time away from Cal Raleigh, but Pereda could provide some quality organizational depth after slashing .308/.422/.465 across 192 Triple-A plate appearances last year.
