Jorge Barrosa: Breaking News

Barrosa started in left field and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. Barrosa had the most unlikely of doubles in the sixth inning when his attempted sacrifice bunt, which Chicago third baseman Alex Bregman thought was heading into foul territory, stayed fair and rolled into left field. The two-hit night snapped an 0-for-10 run for Barrosa, whose playing time has taken a hit since Lourdes Gurriel was activated off the injured list.

Barrosa went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 10-4 loss to the Blue Jays. Barrosa entered the game as a defensive replacement for Corbin Carroll (back), but Carroll is expected to be fine for Tuesday versus the White Sox, per Alex D'Agostino of SI.com. As long as the Diamondbacks have their preferred outfield of Lourdes Gurriel, Alek Thomas and Carroll (from left to right) available, Barrosa is likely to be limited to a part-time role at best, though he could carve out some at-bats as a switch hitter. Barrosa's homer was his first of the season to go with five RBI, seven runs scored, seven doubles, one triple and a .243/.283/.480 slash line over 55 plate appearances.

Barrosa is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. After slashing .214/.267/.381 with six extra-base hits (five doubles, one triple), five runs and four RBI over a stretch of 12 consecutive starts, Barrosa will remain on the bench for the second day in a row. The switch-hitting Barrosa could still see regular starts against left-handed pitching, but his chances of playing on an everyday basis versus right-handers may have come to an end with Lourdes Gurriel making his return from the injured list.
